| Abstract: |
| Yuan Longping，the“father of hybrid rice”，had sustained creativity in scientific research and great international influence，which is rare among contemporary Chinese scientists. He，devoting all his life to increasing China’s food security and dealing with the world’s food shortage，made significant breakthroughs in the innovation and promotion of rice science and technology. He not only achieved his life goals but also demonstrated his concern for his country and the world. The three major factors that led to his success were unusual life purposes, exceptional talent in agriculture and multiple opportunities. He，a master in agriculture，possessed a scientist’s brain，a humanist’s heart，a farmer’s body and a poet’s dream. |
